Chimp Trekking in Tanzania

CHIMP TREKKING IN TANZANIA

Chimpanzee trekking is one of the safaris done in Tanzania. Tourism is one of the fast growing industries in the whole world, Tanzania’s tourism has also become very successful in the recent years. Tanzania as a tourist destination is full of forests in which you will get to see a large variety of wildlife, among which are the ape family of chimpanzees. These animals are very intelligent and that is why it is not an easy job to trace them out inside the dense forest of Tanzania.

Among the forests that are known specially for the chimpanzee trekking safari are Mahale Mountains National Park, and Gombe Stream National Park. Mahale Mountains National Park is a famous forest in the eastern part of Tanzania, whereas Gombe Stream National Park is located very close to the former forest and that is why most of the chimpanzee trekking safaris are conducted in the eastern part of the country. Mahale National Park will also give you the spectacular vision of the Tanganyika Lake. This part of the jungle is actually a long habitat for the chimpanzees in Tanzania.

Gombe Stream National Park is one of the smallest national parks in Tanzania at only 20 square miles. The park is located in the western Kigoma region and was established in 1968. The terrain is distinguished by steep valleys, and the forest vegetation ranges from grassland to alpine bamboo to tropical rainforest.

The park is accessible by boat and is known to be a home for chimpanzees. It is in this park where Jane Goodall conducted her research on chimpanzees. The park’s diversity makes it increasingly popular, just like Kibale Forest National park in Uganda. Besides chimpanzees, primates inhabiting Gombe Stream include beachcomber olive baboons, red colobus, red-tailed monkeys, blue monkeys, and vervet monkeys.

The park is also home to over 200 bird species and bush pigs. There are also 11 species of snakes, and occasional hippopotami and leopards. Visitors to the park can trek into the forest to view the chimpanzees, as well as swim and snorkel in Lake Tanganyika with almost 100 kinds of colourful cichlid fish.

The government is very strict about the reservation of the wildlife in peace. So, the people who have come for the chimpanzee trekking safari should be careful about their own safety; also they should not disturb the peace in the life of the wild animals in Tanzania.
